Publicly accessible toilets refer to all toilets that the public can access without having to buy anything.
This includes toilets in parks, transport hubs, supermarkets as well as toilets and community schemes provided
by local authorities.
Summer Fetes and local community events As a general rule if an event lasts no
longer than 6 hours, and no food or alcohol is served you should provide 1 portable toilet unit for every 100
female guests expected and another for every 500 men, plus and an additional portable urinal unit for every 150
men.
The rule of thumb is to have 1 portable toilet for every 60 guests, for a one night event, but this a
general guide and sometimes we will recommend more than this if the event is running over a longer period. One
toilet for 60 guests might not be sufficient if there are plenty of people drinking and if the event is
primarily attended by female guests, it’s worth having more toilets to avoid the lengthy queue. Even smaller
events like large house parties can benefit from hiring a port-a-loo.
